This is a new course. It is part of a new program in the History and Social Sciences Department and the English Department. The goal of this new program is to make the 11th grade History and Literature courses more dynamic, relevant, and interdisciplinary. Such a change will help to avoid a compartmentalized approach, one that does not mirror the realities of the 21st century world. In a 21st century work environment problems are solved through creative, interdisciplinary thinking and the application of a range of skills and concepts.The 11th grade History and English courses will take a coordinated, thematic approach to the subject matter, one designed to highlight relevance and connections to present-day concerns. The History and English curricula would be interwoven by taking key historical issues and making parallels / connections with equivalent literary works, while also tracing the contours of the various debates and issues to the present.
